Sunday at the Parents/Grandparents

Aneta and I sleep in late this Sunday morning following our big adventure to Slovakia. But we have to collect the baby, Ania, from her Grandparents flat in Gliwice. Alicja was gracious enough to take the little one for Aneta so we could have a splendid day together on Saturday without having to worry about dragging her along on another tiring journey ill suited for a two-year-old.

We got around by about noon this morning, had a nice breakfast and some much needed coffee and then went to Gliwice to have dinner with Alicja and Witek Weclawek (Voun-suave-ik), Aneta's parents. Alicja made my cherished Golabki (Go-wamp-eke), otherwise known as stuffed cabbage rolls and homemade Pierogi.

She made a delicious beet salad to go with and we had a veritable feast of delicious traditional Polish food. Following dinner we went to the cemetery to visit Witek's father's grave and leave lighted candle lanterns in memorium. This seems to be something they do frequently. When we were finished there we drove to the Chopin Park and Botanical Gardens in Gliwice.

We had a lovely walk through the park before entering the botanical garden that has been there since 1924. It is quite impressive and we spent a couple of hours wandering among the tropical plants, succulents, rare and unusual flora and fauna. The garden also features a few creatures in cages or glass display areas, such as a snake, a Bearded Dragon, turtles, fish and other small living things.

After our pleasant visit we returned to the Weclawek's flat for homemade apple struddle and chocolate cake with coffee. We loaded Ania and her extensive collection of toys into the car and headed back home around 9 PM.
